Mumps
Mumps is a viral infection that affects the salivary glands. These glands are situated under the jaw and on both sides of the face under the ears.
The infection can cause these glands to swell & thereby a swelling of cheeks, neck or throat can be seen in the patient. This makes it difficult for the patient to speak or swallow food & water.

• Swelling of neck or throat

Causes:
• Viral infection affecting salivary glands

Food groups to consume in mumps:
1. Soft foods: Easy to chew & swallow
Foods to consume: Rice, mashed potatoes, puddings, custards, jellies, oatmeal, yogurt, muskmelon, mangoes, and bananas
2. Liquids: Prevents dehydration
Foods to consume: Juices, coconut water, soups and broths

Recipes based on the above food groups:
Recipe 1: Rice porridge
1. Take We will need 2 tbsp rice
2. Make sure you wash it well
3. In a pan, take add 200 ml cows milk
4. Add, rice
5. A pinch of cardamom powder
6. Allow this to boil till the rice is cooked
7. Add 2 tsp sugar
8. Stir gently
9. Make sure to serve hot
Recipe 2: Melon smoothie
1. We will need ½ chopped muskmelon
2. Add this to a blender
3. Add 1 cup yogurt in it
4. Also add 2 tsp sugar
5. Blend these all together
You can start your day with delicious and filling drink.Drink this with breakfast & give your day a healthy start
