Although losing weight is not always as simple as heading low-carb , there’s no denying that taking in more energy than you expend will cause weight gain. Nevertheless, it is not just a dietitian-recommended hack; there’s science to prove this premeal order. A study out of Penn State discovered that if a group of participants ate a first course of soup before their entrée, they ate 20 percent fewer calories (with the soup and entrée) compared to if they did not eat the soup beforehand.

In addition to filling the volume on your stomach, broth-based soups are hydrating, which could satiate your thirst cue, clarified Haley Hughes, MS, RD, CDE, who added that certain broth-based soups are a terrific source of protein, vitamins, and minerals.
