Foodporn: If Ice Cream And Doughnuts Had A Child

We will be the first to admit that ice cream rocks and donuts occasionally make us drool. Food mashups have been popular the past few year. For example chicken enchilada pasta, pizza cake and alcoholic cupcakes. Did you just start to water-mouth? Maybe just a little? Guess what, the next big thing is here: ice cream buns.

Ice cream sandwiches have been around for a while now but they are coming back bigger than ever. The standard ice cream sandwich consist of two cookies that keeps the ice cream safe and sound in the middle. Did you know there is even a national Ice Cream Sandwich Day? That’s right August 2nd celebrates the magic of the birth between two of our favorite guilty pleasure foods. The newest trend is to use a doughnut instead of a cookie, it’s an ice cream bun.

The process of making one of these involves four key steps: choose ice cream, fill, seal, and eat. The shops make the waffles on the spot and they uses a special waffle-iron to press to seal the bun and what you end up getting is a phenomenal contrast of warm, dense sweetness and cool, creamy flavor!

The New York cronut is getting some fierce competition. The dish originated in California where Andy Nguyen and a local fashion designer, Scott Nghiem, decided to make food magic after being inspired by Asian desserts. New York has taken the dish under its wing and even has special shops where you can get a bun!
