On the Charts: ‘La La Land’ Surges After Golden Globe Wins
La La Land capitalized on its victorious trip to the Golden Globe Awards by touchdown its soundtrack at Number Two on the Billboard 200.
The La La Land soundtrack, which earned Best Original Song honors for “City of Stars” on the award present, jumped from Number 15 in its pre-Golden Globe week to second place on the energy of 42,000 copies, nearly all of which had been conventional album gross sales, Billboard reports.
For the third consecutive week, the Weeknd’s Starboy topped the Billboard 200, securing one other 63,000 whole copies. However, of that whole, solely 14,000 copies had been from conventional album gross sales, and the remainder streaming equal albums (or SEAs) or bulk-track purchases.
A pair of Lin-Manuel Miranda tasks – the Moana soundtrack and the Hamilton Broadway forged recording – completed the week at Number Three and Number Six respectively. The Dropkick Murphys’ 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory was the lone new launch to crack the Top 10 at Number Eight. Bruno Mars’ 24Okay Magic (Number Four), J. Cole’s four Your Eyez Only (Five) and Drake’s Views (Seven) rounded out the Top 10.
The week’s unlikeliest Top 10 finisher was Chris Stapleton’s Traveller, which returned to the higher tier (at Number 10) thanks largely to a viral Facebook video that featured a father singing Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” to his younger daughter. The viral video has been seen 20 million instances because it was uploaded in early January; Traveller offered 22,000 whole copies to put tenth.
