Inner Thigh Swish Swash Exercise
Inner Thigh Swish Swash Exercise – Mondays with Margot
Of course, swish swash is the clinical term for this strengthening exercise for inner thigh! The irony is that it doesn’t feel like much is happening up the inside of your thigh; instead, you are more likely to feel muscles fatigue on the outside of your weight bearing leg (right leg in the video). The swish swash motion also applies to your foot and ankle. I cannot emphasized the importance of this motion for balance, lower leg strength, and reduction of tension in the outer calf muscles.
Steps
– Stand with your right hand on a chair, wall or bannister
– Press into your right foot and leg and start to move your left leg sideways like a left-to-right pendulum
– Simultaneously, draw an arc with your foot—big toe up as you swish your leg right and baby toes up as you swish your leg left
– Focus on keeping the motion fluid and continuous
Reps
– Do 10-15 reps with your left leg and switch
Sensations: swinging leg
– The sensation in the inner thigh will be mild
– You may or may not feel the muscles of your outer and deep calf
Sensations: standing leg
– The sensation in the outer hip (gluteals) of the standing leg will be strong; expect these muscles to fatigue
– You are likely to feel fatigue in the entire calf
